David Johns, a cellist in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, is part of a new partnership between the orchestra and the digital marketing agency Isobar. Johns, a high-school junior with a longstanding interest in computer graphics and virtual reality game design, has been invited to be an intern this summer at Isobar’s innovation NowLab. Together with Los Angeles-based virtual-reality artist Teek Mach, Isobar is also working with CYSO on a live collaboration between music and painting in virtual reality with Google Tilt Brush, which has been tested out during orchestra rehearsals and will be performed before an audience at a future date. Johns plans to continue his exploration of technology by studying engineering after he graduates in 2018.
