“Radu Paponiu, an experienced educational conductor and violinist with extensive chamber experience, will be the new assistant conductor of the Naples Philharmonic and director of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra,” writes Harriet Howard Heithaus in Wednesday’s (6/21) Naples Daily News (Florida). “He will join the organization for the 2017-18 season, replacing Yaniv Segal…. A native of Romania, Paponiu recently completed his masters in orchestral conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He has participated in the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival and School with fellowships…. Paponiu was also conductor apprentice with [Boston’s] Handel and Haydn Society and served on the conducting faculty for the Juilliard School Pre-College Division…. In the 2016-17 season, he was guest conductor for education concerts with the North Carolina Symphony and the Naples Philharmonic, conducting its LinkUp concert in May. Paponiu was appointed assistant conductor for the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado for the 2017 summer season…. Paponiu began his musical studies on the violin at age seven…. He earned both a bachelor of music and an artist diploma in violin performance at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles.”
