The American Youth Symphonic Orchestra has appointed three guest conductors to lead its 2017-18 concerts. The AYSO is one of five ensembles of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras, based in Annandale, Virginia. Nell Flanders will lead the AYSO’s opening concert in November; she has previously led orchestras including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mannes Orchestra, Peabody Symphony, the Riverside Orchestra, and the Chelsea Symphony, with whom she starts as a staff conductor in September 2017. John Devlin, who will conduct the AYSO’s February concert, is the cover conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.; assistant conductor of New Jersey’s Princeton Symphony Orchestra; and artistic director and conductor of Gourmet Symphony in Washington, D.C. Glenn Quader, who will conduct the AYSO’s May concert, was previously conductor of the AYPO’s concert orchestra from 2014 to 2016.  He also has served as conductor of Virginia’s Piedmont Symphony, music director of the Frederick (Maryland) Symphony Orchestra, and conductor of the Maryland Lyric Opera.
