The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra has named DAVID GROSSMAN principal bass and MICHAEL THORNTON principal horn.

David Grossman has been a member of the bass section of the New York Philharmonic since 2000, and will perform with both ensembles. As a jazz performer, Grossman was previously a member of the Marcus Roberts Trio, and he is composer of several orchestral works including Mood Swings for trombone and double bass, written for New York Philharmonic Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi, and Fantasy on “Shall We Gather at the River” for former Philharmonic English Horn Thomas Stacy. He serves on the double bass faculty of the Manhattan School of Music and this fall will join the Mannes School of Music faculty.

Michael Thornton is principal horn of the Colorado Symphony, and will perform with that ensemble and with Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Prior to joining the Colorado Symphony he was principal horn of the Honolulu Symphony. He has an active career as chamber musician and soloist, and is an associate professor of horn at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
