The League’s 2017 Conference in Detroit may be over—but the learning from the great sessions continues. Video of the highly rated Bold and Informed: Researching Audiences on a Budget session is posted on the League’s post-Conference site, along with the detailed PowerPoint presentations of speakers Bob Harlow and Sara Billmann. The session covered the best low-cost ideas for researching target audiences from arts organizations around the country, and demonstrated how audience research can lead to successful strategies, as part of the Wallace Foundation’s Building Audiences for the Arts initiative. Orchestra audiences also attend opera, dance, theater, and museums, and the speakers discussed which proven methods they use to reach elusive Millennials, identify barriers for non-attendees, and understand what current audiences really think about arts organizations.
