“Even if you don’t recognize her name, you’ll have heard Tina Guo’s music,” writes Lauren James in Thursday’s (7/27) South China Morning Post (Hong Kong). “The Shanghai-born cellist and erhu player can be heard on the soundtracks to … Dunkirk, Iron Man 2 … and Clash of the Titans. Most recently, she lent her distinctively ferocious electric cello sound to the Wonder Woman theme Is She With You? [The L.A.-based cellist] has also created music for a host of video games, performed alongside Justin Bieber … Stevie Wonder … and Joe Bonamassa…. In February, she released Game On!, an album of the most popular video game music.” Guo moved to the U.S. with her family when she was five. She is in the midst of a “tour with composer Hans Zimmer [who] contacted Guo in 2009 after he saw her Queen Bee video, a metal remake of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s … Flight of the Bumblebee…. Her parents … classical music teachers, … ‘were really freaking out,’ Guo says…. ‘I grew up in such a strict, conservative, super traditional household.’ … Guo has plans for an industrial metal album, which she intends to co-compose with Zimmer next year.”
