“Cloud Cult, the indie band with multiple Owatonna connections, will be playing a unique show in April with the Minnesota Orchestra,” writes Ryan Anderson in Friday’s (7/28) Owatonna People’s Press (Owatonna, Minn.). “ ‘It’s a career highlight, and to have so many talented musicians ready to perform your music is really humbling,’ said Craig Minowa, the band’s singer/songwriter and an Owatonna native…. Grant Meachum, director for Live at Orchestra Hall, is similarly exhilarated…. Since finalizing the collaboration, he’s discovered ‘there are more Cloud Cult fans in the Minnesota Orchestra than I ever would have known,’ he said…. Minowa said … many of Cloud Cult’s songs are so orchestral they’re virtually impossible to perform in a live setting, but partnering with the Minnesota Orchestra will open that avenue…. Meachum and Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, first alighted upon the idea of collaborating with bands—especially groups with Minnesota roots—a couple of years ago, and the concerts so far have been well received, Meachum said [including] a show [in April 2017] with Margret Wander—better known as Dessa—a Minnesota rapper, singer, spoken word artist, writer, and record executive.”
