Terrence Abernathy, a 24-year-old aspiring conductor from St. Louis, is the subject of an August blog post at the St. Louis Symphony’s “Stories from Backstage” site, which reports on behind-the-scenes activities at the orchestra. Abernathy, a horn player and graduate of McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois, works as an usher for the orchestra, and is a recipient of one of the orchestra’s IN UNISON graduate fellowships. Through the fellowship program he attends rehearsals, studies music the orchestra performs, and meets individually with conductors. He is an alumnus of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra and is mentored by St. Louis Symphony Associate Principal Horn Thomas Jöstlein. Says Abernathy, “I am learning about conducting from the inside.”
