“For five seasons he featured prominently as the not-so-loving father Tywin Lannister on the wildly popular HBO series Game of Thrones,” reads an unsigned article in Monday’s (8/21) River City News (Covington, Kentucky). “Now, he’s hitting the road with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. CSO will be traveling Europe this month and September, playing Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. Actor Charles Dance will be the narrator at three stops on the tour, in Edinburgh, London, and San Sebastian. ‘I am thrilled to be performing this historic work with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as part of their European tour,’ Dance said in a statement…. In addition to Scotland, England, and Spain, CSO will perform at stops in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Lincoln Portrait was the result of a commission in which Copland was asked to create a work about ‘an eminent American.’ The piece is performed by an orchestra with a narrator who reads excerpts of Lincoln’s great works, such as the Gettysburg Address. It has been narrated in other performances by President Barack Obama, Dr. Maya Angelou, and astronaut Neil Armstrong.”
