“As the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra prepares to kick off its 44th season, Artistic Director Jose Valencia acknowledged that the symphony doesn’t always stick to what’s expected from an orchestra, as its upcoming season, titled ‘OMG!,’ proves,” writes Alyx Arnett in Wednesday’s (9/6) Kokomo Perspective (Kokomo, Indiana). “The season begins on Sept. 9 with ‘Let’s Pop’ [featuring] pieces from The Beatles, The Who, and The Doors, along with a few selections from Harry Potter…. The symphony will bring in its three winners from the inaugural Kokomo’s Got Talent that took place in June to perform solos. Local musicians will have another chance to be a part of KSO once again this winter, as the organization currently is auditioning for soloists for its December concert, Handel’s Messiah.… In February, the season will continue … with ‘Disney Delights’ [featuring] student musicians. The last concert of the season will be ‘Brilliantly Broadway’ on May 12.” Valencia said the season is “a continuation of connecting with the Kokomo and Howard County community intentionally and really, really doing some things that are intended to develop great relationships with people in all artistic spheres [and] provide really great music for a great, great community.”
