The Philadelphia Orchestra has appointed MICHAEL ALBAUGH director of collaborative learning. Albaugh goes to the Philadelphia Orchestra from Jazz at Lincoln Center, where he served as director of education operations. At the Philadelphia Orchestra, Albaugh will help to advance the organization’s commitment to community service through its HEAR initiatives focused on Health, Education, Access, and Research. He will serve as the orchestra’s primary ambassador for partnerships with schools, social service organizations, conservatories, student and community orchestras, academic and cultural institutions, and more. At Jazz at Lincoln Center, Albaugh provided leadership for integrating education with advocacy, concerts, and touring. He created the Summer Jazz Academy at Bard College and the Junior Jazz Academy at Juilliard. Albaugh was previously a faculty administrator at Montclair State University and director of music at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Albaugh received a B.A. in music education and guitar performance from West Liberty State College. He holds an M.M. in composition from Bowling Green State University and a D.M.A. in composition with an emphasis in music theory from West Virginia University.
