The New York Philharmonic has launched a podcast, Listening Through Time, featuring current and retired Philharmonic musicians in conversation with Philharmonic Archivist/Historian Barbara Haws. The first episode features former Principal Trumpet Philip Smith talking about how Philharmonic performances of the opening trumpet solo in Mahler’s Fifth Symphony—which was performed on this season’s opening concert program—have changed over time. Among those featured in upcoming episodes will be former Principal Clarinet Stanley Drucker and current musicians including Principal Cello Carter Brey, Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi, Bassist Orin O’Brien, and Principal Librarian Lawrence Tarlow. Podcasts also feature photos and detailed background research for each episode, as well as scores, parts, and programs from the New York Philharmonic Leon Levy Digital Archives.
