The Denver Young Artists Orchestra will host a Women in Music Symposium on October 7 and 8, in partnership with the Colorado Symphony and the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. The symposium, meant to address “the underrepresented role of women in the classical music industry,” will be held at the University of Denver’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts. The symposium will include masterclasses, recitals, panel discussions, and lectures about the evolving experience of women in music. On October 8, Denver Young Artists Orchestra Music Director Wes Kenney will lead the orchestra in a program entitled “Challenging Expectations” and featuring Hilary Tann’s The Open Field, plus Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 and Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4, with Colorado Symphony horn player Carolyn Kunicki as soloist.
