“Peter T. Salerno is stepping down as executive director of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra at the end of this month,” writes Ray Kelly in Tuesday’s (10/10) Republican (Springfield, Mass.). “Salerno, 76, of Wilbraham twice served as interim head of the SSO and has been its executive director since 2015. He held the reigns after the departure of Audrey Szychulski in March 2015…. ‘We are all thankful to Peter for his leadership and his commitment to the mission of the SSO. He was an advocate for our symphony orchestra’s outstanding musical performances and embraced the values and spirit of our organization,’ the SSO Board of Trustees said in a statement. ‘His accomplishments included reaching out to the community and were successful in bringing a new vision to our audiences.’ … Salerno will be honored by the SSO before the start of its season opening concert on Saturday night…. SSO Development Director Susan Beaudry will serve as interim executive director. Prior joining the SSO two years ago, Beaudry was the fundraising chief of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and director of development for Berkshire United Way.”
