“Bus riders and passers-by were treated to an early morning concert Friday as the Sacramento Regional Transit bus shelter at 14th and L streets was transformed into what the agency dubbed ‘The World’s Smallest Concert Hall,’ ” writes Cathy Locke in Friday’s (10/13) Sacramento Bee (Calif.). “Wrapped with images and information related to the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera’s scheduled performances for the 2017-18 season, the shelter has been outfitted with four upholstered theater seats and audio speakers. A string quartet performed live Friday morning, playing songs from the Philharmonic’s season opener. The shelter is in front of the Sacramento Community Center. Recorded classical music will be featured at the mini venue around the clock through November, said Miranda Raulinaitis, spokeswoman for the project [designed] to raise awareness of the arts in the region. The bus stop is served by Amador Transit, El Dorado Transit, e-tran, SacRT and Yolobus, but anyone is welcome stop by to enjoy the free music. The idea for the shelter, nicknamed ‘Busker,’ was presented in a December 2015 Sactown Magazine article that highlighted a project in Pittsburgh, Pa., where a local jazz club converted a bus shelter into a tiny ‘jazz club’ featuring recorded music.”
