On November 4, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania will perform the world premiere of Doug Ovens’s Visible Music for Bertoia Sound Sculptures and Orchestra, led by Music Director Diane Wittry. The composition features sound sculptures by Lehigh Valley artist Harry Bertoia (1915-1978), which are being showcased at the Allentown Art Museum in an exhibit entitled “Reverberations.” Leading up to the concert, several events will take place at the museum, including public demonstrations by the composer of the Bertoia Sound Sculptures on October 13 and 20; Wittry and Ovens will give a public presentation at the museum about Visible Music for Bertoia Sound Sculptures and Orchestra on October 19. The orchestra-museum partnership also includes museum displays of several sculptures, including From Suspension to Sound by Harry and Val Bertoia and Sounding Piece by Harry Bertoia.
