In a wide-ranging interview, League of American Orchestras President and CEO Jesse Rosen discusses orchestras’ growing community engagement work with WWFM Classical radio host Rachel Katz. The program was broadcast and posted on Sunday (10/14). Rosen and Katz talk about the ways that orchestras are working to reach broader audiences and younger listeners, including through support of music education and youth orchestra programs. Rosen speaks about the League’s recent report on orchestras’ education and community engagement, and also discusses increasing diversity, reaching new audiences, the current generation of orchestra musicians, and the changing nature of education programs. The conversation includes discussion of the League’s role in arts education advocacy and the ways the report data can be used by the League and its members. The interview starts at 6 minutes into the program. This is Rosen’s second recent conversation with Katz; listen to the October 5 program, which includes an interview of Las Vegas Philharmonic Concertmaster De Ann Letourneau, here.
