The Chelsea Symphony, based in New York City, has appointed NELL FLANDERS to its conducting staff. Flanders holds a bachelor’s degree in violin performance and minor in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory, a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Mannes College of Music, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in orchestral conducting at the Peabody Conservatory, where she is studying with Marin Alsop. She has previously conducted orchestras including the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, and the Riverside Orchestra (New York City). She will lead the first concerts in her new position at the Chelsea Symphony on October 27 and 28, with fellow conductor Matthew Aubin, in music by Beethoven, von Weber, and Saint-Saëns, as well as the world premiere of Aaron Dai’s View of Life.
