The Utah Symphony has appointed three violinists: First Violin BONNIE TERRY, Assistant Principal Second Violin EVGENIA ZHARZHAVSKAYA, and Second Violin Section HANNAH LINZ.

First Violin Bonnie Terry most recently spend a decade as associate concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony, and also played with the Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra in Chicago for the past fourteen summers. Terry first soloed with the Utah Symphony under the direction of Joseph Silverstein on the annual Salute to Youth Concert at the age of 10. She received her bachelor’s degree and performer’s certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with William Preucil, and earned a master’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she was also a student of Preucil. She was a fellow with the New World Symphony in Florida and was the concertmaster of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra for three years.

Assistant Principal Second Violin Evgenia Zharzhavskaya joins the Utah Symphony after three seasons as a full-time substitute with Houston Symphony. Zharzhavskaya was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and began violin studies at age six. She studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov School of Music and at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, where she received bachelor and master of music degrees. She has taken part in music festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Verbier Festival, Gustav Mahler Academy, and Miyazaki Festival. Zharzhavskaya also studied with Elmar Oliveira at Lynn University Conservatory of Music in Florida.

Hannah Linz, who joins the Utah Symphony’s second violin section, most recently spent two seasons with the Dallas Symphony and as a substitute with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Originally from Okemos, Michigan, she began playing violin at age three, and later completed a degree in violin performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She studied privately with Ik-Hwan Bae, Jorja Fleezanis, and Alexander Kerr.
