“ ‘Music brings people together,’ says conductor Aram Demirjian. ‘So does beer,’ ” writes Carol Shane in Thursday’s (11/2) Knoxville News Sentinel (Tenn.). “Zack Roskop agrees. As a master brewer, and owner/operator of Knox Brew Tours, he’s long been smitten with suds. Now the two are merging their respective crafts into a singular experience. This week and next, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra presents a new series, ‘KSO UnStaged,’ in which orchestral groups of various sizes show up ‘where you wouldn’t expect us,’ says Demirjian. For the first offering, ‘KSO UnStaged: Craft,’ the venues are the Casual Pint and the Standard…. Demirjian is eager to coax those with an interest in classical music—but not necessarily in a formal setting—out on the town, and he also wants to involve local artists…. The nontraditional format consists of four different performance sets in four locations within the larger main venue.” Multiple Knoxville breweries “will present beers especially brewed to complement the specific music being played. Afterward, attendees and musicians can mix and visit.” Says Demirjian, “I view everything that we do at the symphony as an opportunity to bring Knoxville closer together.”
