Following recent wildfires in northern California, the San Francisco Symphony and Santa Rosa Symphony have announced concerts that will benefit fire-relief efforts on November 19 and 20, respectively. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas will lead the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus in a program of Beethoven, Copland, and Tchaikovsky at Davies Symphony Hall, with proceeds benefitting victims of northern California wildfires through the North Bay Fire Relief Fund and the Sonoma County Resilience Fund. Thomas, orchestra musicians, chorus members, soloists, stage crew, ushers, and staff will donate their services. The Santa Rosa Symphony will perform a free fire-relief benefit concert on November 20 at Green Music Center. All musicians and conductors are donating their services. The concert will feature former SRS Music Director and Conductor Emeritus Corrick Brown leading the orchestra in the “Star Spangled Banner.” Music Director Bruno Ferrandis will lead Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Jeffrey Kahane, the orchestra’s Conductor Laureate. Also on the program will be Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Elgar’s “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”). Tickets are free. Donations will go to Redwood Credit Union’s North Bay Fire Relief Fund, Sonoma County Resilience Fund, and Sonoma State University’s Noma Cares.
