The deadline is February 2 for composers to apply for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s 2018 Edward T. Cone Composition Institute, a tuition-free six-day program from July 9 to 14 held in collaboration with the Princeton University Department of Music. The Institute will select four composers to participate in consultations, rehearsals, and career-enrichment sessions on the Princeton University campus. Composers will hear their works in rehearsal and performance and will participate in masterclasses with Institute Director and composer Steven Mackey; they will receive feedback from New Jersey Symphony Orchestra musicians and guest conductor David Robertson, who led the orchestra and mentored composers at the 2016 session. The Institute will also provide career-development opportunities with industry leaders. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will perform participants’ works on July 14 at the Richardson Auditorium in Princeton. Previous Cone Institute concerts are available to stream at www.njsymphony.org/conebroadcasts.
