On November 16, Connecticut’s Hartford Symphony Orchestra will present the first of three 2017-18 HSO: Intermix Series of concerts featuring contemporary and classical music in casual settings. The November 16 program will take place at Hog River Brewing Co. in Hartford, and one beer (for those aged 21+) is included in the ticket price. Music Director Carolyn Kuan will conduct Whirl by Connecticut resident Thomas Schuttenhelm, three Jennifer Higdon pieces—Smash, Dark Wood, and Summer Shimmers—plus music by Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven. The second and third HSO: Intermix concerts in February and March will take place at Onyx Spirits Company in East Hartford and at Real Art Ways in Hartford.
