BRIAN ONDERDONK has been named the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra’s Alice May Director of Education and Community Programs, effective January 2, 2018. His responsibilities include implementing all of the Indiana-based orchestra’s education and outreach programs as well as overseeing the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestras; he is also currently conductor of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Onderdonk received his DM degree at Indiana University, where he served as assistant conductor for the IU Opera Theater. In 2013, he was associate conductor for the Atlanta Opera’s production of Tosca. He led the Italian tenor trio Il Volo during their 2013 North American Tour, and has led over 50 fully staged operas. In 2011 he conducted the world premiere of Philip Westin’s Marie’s Orchard and the workshop premiere of PQ Phan’s The Tale of Lady Thi Kinh at Bloomington Summer Music Festival. He collaborated with the IU Opera Theater on the 2011 world premiere of Bernard Rands’s Vincent, and led their production of Philip Glass’s Ahknaten. In 2014, Onderdonk conducted David Chesky’s The Mice War in a joint production with Orchestra Miami and the Florida Grand Opera Resident Artist program.
