In pursuit of easing restrictions for musicians who travel internationally with instruments containing rosewood, the League of American Orchestras represented orchestras at the 69th Standing Committee meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, held in Geneva, Switzerland this week. As more than 600 attendees representing the 183 parties to the treaty met to consider agenda items that included rules for traveling musicians and touring orchestras, the League partnered with other music organizations to deliver comments to decision makers, calling for immediate and long-term policy improvements that will address urgent conservation concerns while protecting international cultural activities.
