ANDY BUELOW has been named executive director of the West Michigan Symphony, effective January 15, 2018. He succeeds Carla Hill, who stepped down in June, and Kay Olthoff, who has been serving as interim executive director of the orchestra, which is based in Muskegon. Buelow goes to the West Michigan Symphony from Symphony Tacoma in Washington, where he was executive director from 2007 to 2017. Prior to that, he spent six seasons at the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in Michigan, and served as director of public affairs for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Buelow holds a bachelor of arts degree from Wisconsin’s Lawrence University. Scott Speck is music director of the West Michigan Symphony, which is currently in its 78th season.
