“The lush, full sound of an orchestra can make the most simple holiday tune sound like a monumental piece,” writes Phyllis A.S. Boros in Thursday’s (12/14) Connecticut Post (Bridgeport). “Holiday concerts have proven to be very popular with folks in the region and area orchestras are responding to ever-evolving tastes with a slate of concerts … on Dec. 15-17, when concerts are scheduled in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Hamden, Shelton and Norwalk…. Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra Music Director Eric Jacobsen said [Saturday] evening’s music will be familiar to a very broad audience … Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’ [and] Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and Strauss’ ‘Tales of the Vienna Woods’ … [with] ‘plenty of music to sing along with, as well,’ Jacobsen said….” The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will perform a “Broadway Holiday” concert in Fairfield featuring the NHSO Brass Quintet and actor Bryce Pinkham, plus two “Holiday Extravaganza” concerts in Hamden, and Shelton, led by pops conductor Chelsea Tipton and featuring vocalist Connor Bogart. The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra will perform “Joys of the Season: Bach to Pops” with local groups including the Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut and the Fairfield County Children’s Choir, plus the New England Academy of Dance in Fauré’s “Pavane” and Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Snowflakes.”
