Pennsylvania’s Johnstown Symphony Orchestra announced it will perform two holiday concerts this month, “the first add-on performance by the JSO in decades,” according to a press release. On December 16 at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Music Director James Blachly will lead the orchestra in a traditional evening program of anthems and Christmas carols, preceded by a matinee performance earlier the same day. Performing with the orchestra will be the Johnstown Symphony Chorus, the Richland High School Chorus, and University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Chorus. The Inclined to Sing children’s choruses will participate during the evening performance. The Johnstown Concert Ballet will also appear with the orchestra, dancing excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Said Blachly, “Our holiday performance of Messiah last year sold out weeks before the concert, and we heard from many people who were disappointed that they couldn’t get tickets.”
