Composers Ashley Fure, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Du Yun, and Fernanda Aoki Navarro will be featured in the New York Philharmonic’s next CONTACT! new-music chamber music concert, on January 8 at National Sawdust in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The program will include Fure’s Therefore I Was (2012) for cello, piano, and percussion; Thorvaldsdottir’s (2013) for bass flute, bass clarinet, piano, percussion, and string quartet; Snider’s Thread and Fray (2016) for bass clarinet, marimba, and viola; and the New York premieres of Yun’s Tattooed in Snow for string quartet (2015) and Navarro’s Parthenogenesis (2012) for clarinet, trombone, piano, and cello. Esa-Pekka Salonen, the Philharmonic’s composer in residence, is advisor for the CONTACT! series during the 2017–18 season, which includes a second concert on April 2, 2018, with program details to be announced.
