The Omaha Symphony and Temple Israel will present a free community concert, “Tradition to Tradition,” on January 13 at Temple Israel in Omaha. Led by guest conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez, the concert will feature the San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir, with Cantor Wendy Shermet as soloist and the Temple Israel choir, as well as Omaha Symphony Concertmaster Susanna Perry Gilmore playing works for solo violin. Works include Kurt Weill’s Symphony No. 2 and music by John Williams from the film Schindler’s List. The San Diego Jewish Men’s Chorus will perform “Song of Galilee,” “Psalm 150,” “When You Believe” from The Prince of Egypt, “Bei Mir Bist du Schon,” “Tradition” from Fiddler on the Roof, and other opera and film selections highlighting music and traditions of the Jewish people. Audience members will be invited to meet the musicians and singers at a post-concert reception. The concert is part of the Omaha Symphony’s ongoing Community Engagement program.
