Beginning January 11 on PBS, the Britt Festival Orchestra’s 2016 performance of Michael Gordon’s Natural History at Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park is being featured on PBS stations in Boston (WGBH), Seattle (KCTS), Cincinnati (CET), and Lexington, Kentucky (KET). The broadcast is also available as a digital stream. On the program, entitled “Symphony for Nature: The Britt Orchestra at Crater Lake,” Teddy Abrams leads the orchestra plus 70-voice choir, Klamath tribal drummers, and additional brass and percussion players in an outdoor performance at the rim of the lake. Natural History was commissioned by the Britt Orchestra as part of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. The PBS documentary follows Gordon, musicians, Abrams, members of the Klamath Tribe, and park personnel as they prepare for the premiere and reflect on Crater Lake and the site-specific performance.
