Leonard Bernstein’s daughter Jamie Bernstein will serve as narrator for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s January 19 and 21 performances of Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, featuring her own new version of the original narration. Music Director José Luis Gomez will conduct both performances, which include soprano Kelley Nassief, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus. Gomez and former TSO Music Director George Hanson will participate in preconcert discussions on both dates. Performances will be recorded for a national radio broadcast celebrating Bernstein’s birth centennial in August 2018. Bernstein will also preside over two related events at the Jewish Community Center of Tucson: a January 20 showing of On the Waterfront and post-screening discussion about her father’s score to the film, and a January 22 panel discussion about Leonard Bernstein’s Jewish heritage, with panel members from the University of Arizona’s music and Judaic Studies faculties.
