Applications for the third annual Ford Musician Awards for Excellence in Community Service are now open. In this League of American Orchestras program, five orchestra musicians will be selected through a competitive process for a $2,500 grant each, with an additional $2,500 to each musician’s home orchestra to support professional development focused on community service and engagement. Each recipient as well as a representative from his or her orchestra also receive registration and transportation for the League’s 2018 National Conference in Chicago. The Awards shine a spotlight on the work of orchestra musicians with people of low incomes, the homebound elderly, immigrants, veterans, prisoners, students, and all those who may not otherwise have access to—or who are not traditionally served by—orchestras.
