On January 26, the Portland Youth Philharmonic’s chamber orchestra, Camerata PYP, will perform Richard Einhorn’s 1994 oratorio Voices of Light as part of a collaboration with Portland State University. The performance at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon will accompany a screening of Carl Dreyer’s 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc and will be conducted by PYP Music Director David Hattner. Also performing will be the Portland-based women’s ensemble In Mulieribus, plus three Portland State University ensembles and vocal soloists. The film is being screened as part of Northwest Film Center’s 34th Reel Music Festival. On January 24 at 6 p.m., PYP will live stream a discussion among Einhorn, Hattner, and Amy Borden, an associate professor of film studies at Portland State University. The day after the Portland Youth Philharmonic’s concert, Portland State University graduate Carolyn Gage will perform her one-woman show The Second Coming of Joan of Arc
