Eighteen Los Angeles high school students have been selected to participate in the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program, founded by the late composer Steven Stucky and currently directed by composer Andrew Norman together with Composer Fellowship Program Teaching Artist Sarah Gibson. The Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform works by four of the eighteen composers at youth concerts at Disney Concert Hall on March 24 and 31, 2018. Fellows participate in reading sessions, rehearsals, and performances of their own works, and attend fifteen to twenty LA Phil concerts every year, including the LA Phil’s new-music-focused Green Umbrella series. This year, the eighteen Fellows are divided into project-driven cohorts, working with chamber groups and smaller ensembles and then applying their skills to orchestration exercises and work with an orchestra. More information about the program and the participants is available at https://www.laphil.com/education/composer-fellowship-program.
