“The Crypt Sessions,” a series that takes place underneath Harlem’s Church of the Intercession in New York City, will open its third season in the church’s crypt on February 1 with the Attacca Quartet performing Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15, Op. 132. Based in New York City, the quartet comprises violinists Amy Schroeder and Keiko Tokunaga, violist Nathan Schram, and cellist Andrew Yee. The quartet had previously performed Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross in the “Crypt Sessions.” The crypt in the historic church offers an intimate space for the series’ focus on music that addresses ideas of transcendence and mortality. Curated by Andrew Ousley, the “Crypt Sessions” launched in 2015 with performances by pianist Conrad Tao and tenor Lawrence Brownlee.
