“The Alabama Symphony Orchestra has named Cheryle Caplinger, who had been serving in the interim executive director capacity since the 2017 season began, as its newest executive director,” writes Stephanie Rebman in Tuesday’s (1/29) Birmingham Business Journal (AL). “Caplinger, who has more than 15 years of experience in leadership, began her tenure with the symphony in 2016 as its vice president of marketing and communications. Prior to that, she was director of marketing and communications at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Engineering. Dixon Brooke, chairman of the Alabama Symphonic Association, said the appointment comes on the heels of Caplinger assembling an excellent team and leading with strong commitment to its mission during the past season. The nonprofit serves nearly 100,000 people yearly throughout Alabama through concert series, youth programs, and educational and community engagement efforts to fulfill a mission of changing lives through music. ‘She has brought great positive energy to the team, and I look forward to working with her in bringing inspiring music to Birmingham and communities around the state,’ said music director Carlos Izcaray.”
