The Curtis Institute of Music and the Sphinx Organization are partnering to bring the Sphinx Performance Academy to Curtis Summerfest, a residential music-training program in Philadelphia this summer. The Sphinx Performance Academy, a chamber music program aimed at providing instruction and mentorship to young African American and Latino musicians, will run from June 10 to 24 at Summerfest. The program is designed for 32 violin, viola, and cello players between the ages of 11 and 17 and provides scholarships and on-campus housing for students. “Many of our students and alumni have participated in various programs of the Sphinx Organization throughout the years, and this program gives them the opportunity to mentor the next generation of talented young Black and Latino musicians in Philadelphia and nationwide,” Curtis President Roberto Díaz said. Applications for the program are due April 11 and are available at the Curtis Summerfest website, www.curtis.edu/Sphinx.
