Applications for the third annual Ford Musician Awards for Excellence in Community Service are now open. In this League of American Orchestras program, five orchestra musicians are selected through a competitive process to receive $2,500 cash awards, with an additional $2,500 to each musician’s home orchestra. Each awardee and a representative from his or her orchestra also receive complimentary registration, transportation, and one night’s hotel accommodation for the League’s 2018 National Conference in Chicago. At the Conference, the musicians will be honored at an awards presentation and featured in a session about education and community engagement. Awardees are publicized on social media and in League communications.

The awards shine a spotlight on the work of orchestra musicians with people of low incomes, the homebound elderly, immigrants, veterans, the incarcerated, students, and anyone who may not otherwise have access to—or who are not traditionally served by—orchestras.
