On February 16, Oregon’s Rogue Valley Symphony will premiere Jonathan Leshnoff’s Rogue Sparks, the fourth of five works commissioned by the orchestra for its 50th-anniversary season. The piece has the same large orchestration as Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, which the orchestra will perform on the same program, along with Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain with Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez. Music Director Martin Majkut will give a pre-concert talk before each of the orchestra’s three performances of the program in Ashland (Feb. 16), Medford (Feb. 17), and Grants Pass, Oregon (Feb. 18).
