The Individual Artist Program of the New York State Council on the Arts offers funding from $2,500 to $10,000 for composers to create new work in any of a variety of musical genres. The deadline to apply is March 28, 2018. The support is provided to composers under the sponsorship of an eligible New York State nonprofit organization submitting the application. The composition may be commissioned by the sponsoring organization or be a new work not specifically intended for a particular group. The project must culminate in a public performance of the complete work or work-in-progress; a full-scale production is not required. The composer must be a New York State resident. Guidelines for the Individual Artist Program are available along with general application instructions here.
