MATT TRAVIS has been appointed director of choral and orchestral programs of the Michigan-based Midland Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra is part of the Midland Center for the Arts, which incorporates six arts groups including Center Stage Choirs as well as a theater, museum, and historical society. Already overseeing operations for Center Stage Choirs, Travis will also manage the long-term vision and day-to-day operations of the Midland Symphony Orchestra. Travis earned his bachelor’s degree in voice performance from the University of Michigan; a master’s degree in choral conducting at Penn State; and a doctorate in choral conducting at the University of Connecticut, where he taught conducting and general music classes and directed the Men’s Glee Club. Bohuslav Rattay is music director of the Midland Symphony Orchestra.
