Need-based tuition awards are available for Essentials of Orchestra Management, the League of American Orchestras’ professional-development seminar in Los Angeles, hosted by the University of Southern California Arts Leadership Program at the Thornton School of Music. The seminar takes place July 16-26, 2018; the deadline to apply is Monday, April 9. Half of the 2017 participants received financial aid. Essentials is an intensive, ten-day interactive experience in which aspiring orchestra administrators learn all aspects of orchestra management under the guidance of prominent leaders from inside and outside the orchestra field. Early-career professionals, career changers, graduate students, and musicians are encouraged to apply. Experienced administrators who wish to expand and deepen their knowledge base in all aspects of an orchestral organization are also welcome. Since its inception in 2000, over 400 emerging leaders have participated in Essentials, including many who now hold key leadership positions in orchestras across the U.S.
