“The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra unveiled plans for Summermusik, an August festival of diverse concert events, from classical to jazz to alternative rock, in eight different venues around the Cincinnati region,” reads an unsigned Sunday (3/25) Cincinnati Enquirer article. “The four-week series [led by] music director Eckart Preu … includes full CCO performances … Little Afternoon Muzik concerts and Chamber Crawl events held at various bars and restaurants…. Season highlights include … cello soloist Coleman Itzkoff … in Elgar’s Cello Concerto [and] three events featuring Elizabeth Pitcairn, the violinist who owns the ‘Red Violin’ featured in the eponymous Academy Award-winning movie of 1998…. Pitcairn will appear with the CCO … performing Chen Yi’s Chinese Folk Dance Suite, which requires the orchestra to vocalize percussive elements as accompaniment, and then playing John Corigliano’s suite from the movie.” Also planned are two concerts featuring pianist Christopher O’Riley; “An Afternoon with Jane Austen,” featuring popular music of her time; The Seasons—Reimagined, featuring CCO concertmaster Celeste Golden Boyer and the orchestra in Max Richter’s recomposed version of Vivaldi’s masterwork; and music from the Prohibition era, featuring CCO’s principal wind players.
