As part of the SHIFT Festival of American Orchestras presented by the Kennedy Center and Washington Performing Arts this week, ArtChangeUS is sponsoring a forum at which artists and thought leaders will examine diversity and cultural equity in orchestras and the arts. The forum takes place on Tuesday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kennedy Center and is free and open to the public. In addition, the forum will be livestreamed free of charge here. Speakers include Gary Ginstling, executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra and League of American Orchestras board member; David Alan Miller, music director of the Albany Symphony and League of American Orchestras board member; Jeri Lynne Johnson, founder of Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra; Lee Koonce, president and artistic director of Gateways Music Festival; Alexander Laing, principal clarinet, Phoenix Symphony; Eun Lee, founder of the Dream Unfinished Orchestra; and representatives from other arts groups. Garrett McQueen, WUOT Knoxville radio host and second bassoonist for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, will serve as moderator. ArtChangeUS@SHIFT Festival of American Orchestras is curated by Arts in a Changing America, which based out of the California Institute of the Arts. SHIFT is presented in cooperation with the League of American Orchestras.
