Canada’s Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has appointed ANGELA ELSTER to the newly created position of vice president of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music and Community Programs. Elster most recently served as interim executive director at the Coalition for Music Education Canada, where she expanded the reach of programs across Canada. Between 1994 and 2015, she held leadership positions with the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She has served as executive director of the Canadian Network for Arts and Learning, and CEO and founder of Centre for Creative Learning. Elster’s writing has been widely published, and June 2016 she received a Governor General’s Award for Service to Canada Meritorious Service Medal. She holds a master of arts degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto, a bachelor of music degree from the University of Toronto, and a certificate of advanced graduate studies from the European Graduate School. She also received an early childhood music education certification from Ryerson University, Toronto.
