The Houston Symphony has planned an April 21 “¡Fiesta!” family program that will feature music of Latin America and introduce student mariachi and dance ensembles to Jones Hall for their first performances with the orchestra. Associate Conductor Robert Franz leads concerts at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., both featuring the Sam Houston Math, Science and Technology Center Mariachi band and the Crockett Elementary Folklorico Dance Ensembles. Repertoire will include music from the 2018 film Coco, the “Toreador Song” from Bizet’s Carmen, and songs including “Cielito Lindo,” “Son de la Negra,” and “Macarena.” Audience members are encouraged to dress up for the concerts, and there will be craft activities and an instrument petting zoo before the 10 a.m. concert and after the 11:30 a.m. concert.
