The Fort Wayne Philharmonic in Indiana has announced a one-year contract extension for Assistant Conductor CALEB YOUNG, who will serve under the new title of associate conductor starting in September. Young joined the orchestra as assistant conductor in 2016. He serves as cover conductor for the Masterworks Series and conducts pops, education, family, and ballet concerts, as well as special performances and community engagement events. Young has conducted the Oregon Symphony, Fort Wayne Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, and Asheville Ballet. He has also served as cover conductor for the Saint Louis Symphony, Van Cliburn Competition, Atlanta Opera, and Portland Symphony Orchestra. In 2016, Young won the American Austrian Foundation’s Ansbacher Conducting Fellowship Prize. He has participated in the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, California, and is founder and conductor of the chamber orchestra KammerMahler, based at the Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. Young, a native of Asheville, North Carolina, received his master’s in orchestral conducting from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
