“To celebrate its 25th anniversary season, the Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform two free concert programs on Sunday,” writes Richard Carter in Friday’s (4/20) Times Record News (Wichita Falls, TX). “The junior concert features music by the elementary school program—the Gail Key Academy of Music—as well as the Strolling Strings composed of middle school and high school-aged musicians. The showcase concert … will feature the Youth Symphonic Orchestra, the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Strolling Strings…. The early performance features musicians from Southern Hills Elementary and Lamar Elementary. In the fall, the Gail Key Academy of Music will expand to [a] third elementary school in the district [and] offer more afterschool lessons for kids all over, [Executive Director Jean Hall] said. Young musicians at both elementary schools receive one private lesson a week and perform together as a group once a week…. Gail Key founded the program in her home in 1992, and it now includes young musicians from 23 schools…. ‘She had a vision of what it could grow into, which included the elementary school program that was started last year,’ … Hall said.”
