The Charlotte Symphony in North Carolina has named CHRISTOPHER JAMES LEES resident conductor, effective July 1, 2018. Music Director Christopher Warren-Green appointed Lees assistant conductor in the 2016-17 season, and he has led pops and family concerts, the On Tap series at local breweries, and a new traveling series, CSO On the Go. In addition, he leads Healing Hands performances at recreation and senior care centers, and conducts educational Link Up concerts as well as Nutcracker performances with Charlotte Ballet. As a Dudamel Conducting Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Lees made his debut with that orchestra in 2013 and returned for performances in 2015. He has guest conducted the Houston, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Kansas City, North Carolina, Toledo, Vermont, and Portland orchestras, among others. International engagements have taken him to Canada, France, and Brazil. Lees has served as music director of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra since 2014. A native of Washington, D.C., Lees holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan.
